Resolution to Approve Amendments to the Council Rules

Memorandum

The amendment to City Council Rule 5A - Preparation of the Agenda allows related items to appear on the agenda consecutively despite the normal order of business of the Council, and the addition of Rule 12A - Motion to Postpone Definitely clarifies the appropriate motion for Council to postpone items to future agendas.

 

These Council Rule amendments were recommended by the Council Administration Committee on March 14, 2023.

Whereas, It is a goal of the City Council to improve the way Council works together as a body, modeling civil discourse for our community, building trust in local government, and ensuring meetings are accessible to the public; and

 

Whereas, The Council Administration Committee has recommended revisions to City Council Rule 5A - Preparation of the Agenda to allow related items to appear on the agenda consecutively and adding a new Rule 12A - Motion to Postpone Definitely to clarify postponing items to future agendas;

 

RESOLVED, That the City Council adopts the attached amendments to the Rules of the Council.
