Attached for your review and approval, please find a resolution that approves a professional services agreement between Northwest Consultants, Incorporated (NCI) and the City of Ann Arbor for the Fuller Road and Maiden Lane Bridge Painting Project in the amount of $39,797.00.

Budget/Fiscal Impact

The estimated total cost of the design of this project is $48,000.00. The work of this project will be funded through the approved Street, Bridge, and Sidewalk Millage Capital Budget.

Project Description

The work of this project is being undertaken at this time in order to position the City of Ann Arbor to be able to receive funds related to the anticipated federal transportation bill. It is believed that this spending, should it occur, will take a form similar to previous spending initiatives such that "shovel-ready" ready projects will be given first priority. Consequently, we are electing to prepare these plans at this time in order to be able to take advantage of the additional funding when it becomes available.

This project was chosen to be a part of this next round of potential "shovel-ready" projects due to its need, the ability to prepare these plans and specifications in a short period of time, and the relatively easy manner in which the work can be performed. The painting of these bridges was originally envisioned as part of the rehabilitation work performed in 2015; however due to the abnormally high prices in the market for bridge painting at the time, the painting was postponed to a future date in anticipation of the prices coming back down.
