Resolution to Amend the Contract with Fonson, Inc. for the Eighth Street Sanitary Manhole Replacement Project ITB#4337 ($14,859.42)
Memorandum
On June 16, 2014 City Council approved Resolution #R-14-191 to award a contract to Fonson, Inc. for the replacement of two sanitary manholes and 62 feet of sanitary sewer along Eighth Street. The resolution included the contract amount of $47,193.00 and a 10% construction contingency in the amount of $4,719.00 to cover potential change orders, for a total of $51,912.00.
Subsequent to Council's approval of the resolution, the project was constructed in September 2014. During construction, a contract change was required to accommodate backfill within areas of high groundwater and to incorporate drainage piping beneath Eighth Street.
The total cost of project construction including necessary changes was $66,771.42, requiring approval of additional contingency funds in the amount of $14,859.42.
Budget Impact:
Funding for the Eighth Street Sanitary Sewer Manhole Replacement Project is available in the Sanitary Sewer Capital Budget.
Fonson, Inc. complies with the City's non-discrimination and Living Wage ordinances.

Whereas, Competitive bids (ITB#4337) were received by the Procurement unit on May 8, 2014 and Fonson, Inc. was the lowest responsible bidder with a submitted bid of $47,193.00;
Whereas, A contingency in the amount of $4,719.00 was approved to finance change orders to the contract with Fonson, Inc.;
Whereas, Additional work was required to complete the project and further contingency funding in the amount of $14,859.42 is required to cover the approved change orders for a total contract value of $66,771.42;
