Resolution to Approve Purchase of Sodium Hypochlorite for Water Treatment from JCI Jones Chemicals, Inc Bid No. ITB-4228 (estimated $113,750.00/yr)
Memorandum
Your approval is requested to authorize the purchase of sodium hypochlorite for the water treatment process. The Water Treatment Services uses sodium hypochlorite to maintain disinfection of drinking water in the distribution system. The estimated cost of this chemical for FY13 is $113,750.00.
The following bids were received:
JCI Jones Chemicals Inc - $0.65/gal
PVS Nolwood - $0.73/gal
Alexander Chemical Corp - $0.789 gal
K.A. Steel Chemicals - $0.798/gal
It is recommended that the resolution be approved to satisfy the Water Treatment Service Unit’s requirement for sodium hypochlorite from JCI Jones Chemicals, Inc, as the lowest responsible bidder.
In the event JCI Jones is unable to furnish the chemical, it is requested that the City Administrator be authorized to accept the next lowest responsible bid for the sodium hypochlorite purchase.
It is also recommended that the purchasing agreement be extended for up to three additional years at no increase in cost if the vendor is agreeable, and if the City deems it to be in its best interest.
Funds are specifically budgeted for this purchase in the approved FY13 Operations and Maintenance Budget for the Water Supply System. Future contract years are subject to City Council’s annual appropriation.
