            PROCLAMATION
Women's Equality Day
August 23, 2010
 
WHEREAS,      the designation of August 23, 2010, as Women's Equality Day is a symbol of the continued fight for equal rights; and
WHEREAS,      the members and officers of nine organizations in Ann Arbor, MI, and Washtenaw County, MI, have joined together to present a celebration of Women's Equality Day; and
WHEREAS,      the presenting organizations are: American Association of University Women, Ann Arbor Branch; Arab-American Organization; Church Women United of Ann Arbor; International Neighbors; League of Women Voters-Ann Arbor Area; Michigan Chinese Women Association; Women's Diversity Network of the Ann Arbor Area; Women Progressive Activists; and Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan; and
WHEREAS,      the women of Ann Arbor, MI, and Washtenaw County, MI, are to be commended and supported in breaking barriers for women and girls.
NOW THEREFORE, I, John Hieftje, Mayor of Ann Arbor, Michigan, by the virtue of the authority vested in me by the laws of Ann Arbor, MI, do hereby proclaim the date of August 23, 2010 as Women's Equality Day in Ann Arbor, MI, and call upon the people of Ann Arbor to observe this date with appropriate programs, activities and ceremonies supporting this year's theme "VOTE."
