Resolution to Approve Change Order No. 1 to the General Services Agreement with Schindler Elevator Corporation for the Water Plant Freight Elevator Jack Replacement ($74,444.00 amendment, total contract amount $520,548.00)
Memorandum
Attached for your approval is a resolution authorizing Change Order No. 1 to the general services agreement change order with Schindler Elevator Corporation for $74,444.00 for the Water Plant Freight Elevator Jack Replacement.

In December 2023, an emergency purchase order for $446,104.00 with Schindler Elevator was approved and ratified (R-23-450) to replace the elevator's buried hydraulic jack. This elevator is extremely important in the day-to-day operations of the plant and to ensure all areas of the plant are safely accessible.

While performing the drilling to replace the jack, a large obstruction was encountered approximately 50 feet below ground. This obstruction requires additional time and materials to properly remove to keep the hole being drilled to the appropriate depth and width to accommodate the new jack. The original Council resolution included a $10,000.00 contingency, which is insufficient to cover the cost of this obstruction removal. Because the work on the jack replacement is not complete, a $10,000.00 contingency is still needed. Council approval is requested for a change order with Schindler Elevator Corporation in the amount of $74,444.00 for this unexpected work to remove the obstruction.

Schindler Elevator complies with the City's Non-Discrimination and Living Wage ordinances.

Budget/Fiscal Impact: Funding for this project is available in the approved Water System Supply Fund Capital Budget.
