Resolution to Restate the Terms of the Membership of the Greenbelt Advisory Commission

Body

Whereas, City Council passed Ordinance No. 17 -04 on May 3, 2004, creating a Greenbelt Advisory Commission ("GAC");

Whereas, The Ordinance required City Council to nominate and appoint the members of the Greenbelt Advisory Commission so that the terms of the first GAC appointed be fixed so that the terms of 3 members be for 1 year; 3 members for 2 years; and 3 members for 3 years; and thereafter all members be appointed for three year terms;

Whereas, All member appointments to the first GAC were made consistent with the Ordinance;

Whereas, In review of the existing terms designated for the current members of the Greenbelt Advisory Commission it has been determined that:

certain members who were appointed to fill vacancies for the remainder of the term of a member of the Commission created by the resignation of that member did not have their initial term of appointment correctly stated resulting in a discrepancy as to number of members whose terms. should expire in 2012;
the extension of existing members terms (e.g. "hold-over") and use of the appointment date in designating the term of office has created inconsistent commencement and termination dates for terms which expire in the same year.

Whereas, For administrative consistency, it is recommended that the terms of the current membership of GAC be restated as follows:

Tom Bloomer 7/1/10-6/30/13

Laura Rubin 7/1/10-6/30/13

RESOLVED, That City Council approves and directs that membership of GAC be restructured as outlined in this resolution and confirms the appointment of the existing members of GAC to the terms as restructured; and

RESOLVED, That the terms of appointment for any member hereafter shall be fixed to commence on 7/1 and terminate on 6/30, of the respective term; except that vacancies shall be effective when filled.
