Proclamation Celebrating A2ZERO Week
Memorandum
WHEREAS, in November of 2019, Ann Arbor City Council unanimously voted to declare a climate emergency and set the goal of community-wide carbon neutrality by 2030; and
WHEREAS, in June of 2020, Ann Arbor City Council unanimously adopted the living A2ZERO Plan, which outlines the various strategies and actions the City plans to undertake to achieve its goal of community-wide carbon neutrality by 2030; and
WHEREAS, over the last several years, residents, businesses, institutions, and city representatives have been working together to achieve the City’s climate and sustainability goals; and
WHEREAS, starting in June of 2021, the City’s Office of Sustainability and Innovations began hosting a weeklong celebration to honor the community’s work to achieve the A2ZERO goal and called this week A2ZERO Week; and
WHEREAS, A2ZERO Week has served as an important reflection point to celebrate successes, reflect on lessons learned, and prepare for another year of work to advance climate action; and
WHEREAS, the City would like to formally recognize the importance of A2ZERO Week and make it a standard, annual event to commemorate climate work in the community; and
WHEREAS, the City recognizes the importance of regularly engaging, reflecting, celebrating, honoring, and bringing stakeholders together to advance sustainability, resilience, and climate action.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Christopher Taylor, Mayor of Ann Arbor, Michigan, do hereby proclaim the first full week of June as A2ZERO Week. I call upon all Ann Arborites to join in celebrating, reflecting, and implementing solutions to help us achieve a just transition to community-wide carbon neutrality.
