Title
Resolution to Approve a Street Closure of Washington Street between Fletcher and Thayer Streets for the Eli Lilly Mobile Research Unit on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 from 7:00 AM until 10:00 PM
Memorandum
The attached resolution is requesting approval to close Washington Street between Fletcher and Thayer Streets on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 from 7:00 AM until 10:00 PM for the Eli Lilly Mobile Research Unit. The actual event runs from 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM with the additional time to be used for set-up and breakdown.

Lilly and the University of Michigan are partnering with student organizations Black Business Undergraduate Students, Black Undergraduate Medical Association and Beta Mu Epsilon (Biomedical Engineering Society) to share the importance of Clinical Trials and how it has strengthened communities and enhanced their health and access to healthcare.

Lilly will be bringing its innovative Mobile Research Unit - literally, a laboratory on wheels - to invite students for tours and share educational information. This unit will serve as a physical space where these students are able to realize their personal and professional paths for the future. This unit will be parked on Washington Street along with pop-up tents staffed with Lilly employees throughout the day engaging with students helping them understand how they can impact the health of people all around the world, but also in their very own local communities. This is the second time the Unit has been on-campus and there were no issues reported.

Notification of the street closure will be through the City's website and GovDelivery, and resources through the University of Michigan.

The sponsor agrees to obtain all barricades, necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City and state regulations governing the use of the streets, and will reimburse the City for all event expenses.
