Memorandum

The attached resolution is requesting approval to close various streets and provide other services to accommodate the annual Dexter-Ann Arbor running races sponsored by the Ann Arbor Track Club on Sunday, June 2, 2024.  The races involve more than 5,000 participants and volunteers.  Proceeds benefit the Hope Clinic, Girls on the Run and other non-profit partners.

As with every year, MDOT has given tentative approval for the M-14 off ramp closure to Southbound Main Street, however approval from the City is required prior to MDOT issuing a permit for the ramp closure.  The applicant will apply for a temporary liquor license, should conditions allow for gathering in a beer tent at that time.  Therefore, the Ann Arbor Track Club must submit an application for approval from the State of Michigan Liquor Control Commission for temporary sales, service and consumption of alcoholic beverages in the defined areas pursuant to the Michigan Liquor Control Commission regulations.

All streets will open as soon as safely possible.  Participants will be directed to sidewalks as the race nears its end.

The sponsor agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the streets and will reimburse the City for all event expenses.

Official notification of the street closings will be provided through the City’s website, GovDelivery and the applicant’s use of press releases, runner websites and social media.

This event has been coordinated with all relevant City service areas for the purposes of traffic control and for the protection of the health and safety of the participants and the general public.
