Attached for your consideration is a resolution to approve the closing of State Street from William to North University on Sunday, September 10, 2023 from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM for the UM Show Your Love A2 Party. The applicants, the State Street District and the University of Michigan are partnering with the Kerrytown District Association and the Main Street Area Association for this community event. The University is offering discounts and giveaways for students and staff. One of the goals for this event is to introduce the three downtown business districts, and the greater downtown itself, to the UM student community and the individual and distinctive businesses in these areas by raising awareness of the importance of supporting local businesses. The footprint of the downtown restaurant/retail closures will also be utilized for this event.
Attractions will include musical entertaining at each venue, jugglers/street performers at key intersections, glass blowing demonstrations and trivia contests.
Notification of the street closings will be provided through the City's website and GovDelivery, University of Michigan Communications and the District Associations websites.
