Memorandum
To obtain a charitable gaming license under Michigan law, a nonprofit organization is required to submit a resolution from its local governing body recognizing it as a community-based organization.

Garrett's Space is a 501(c)(3) civic nonprofit agency that is dedicated to reducing suicides and filling critical gaps in supportive care options for young adults ages 18 to 28 facing mental health challenges. Garrett's Space is working to restore hope and perspective in this population by promoting connections, self-worth, and resilience.

Passage of the attached resolution will allow Garrett's Space to hold a raffle on August 21, 2023, at Lake Forest Golf Club, 3110 W. Ellsworth Rd., Ann Arbor, MI 48103. Passage of this resolution is required in order to obtain final approval from the Charitable Gaming Division of the Bureau of State Lottery for this event and any future events.

Whereas, P.A. 382 of 1972, as amended, requires that local civic nonprofit organizations be recognized by resolution adopted by the local governmental subdivision in which the organization conducts its principal activities and that a copy of said resolution be filed with any application for a license to conduct a bingo, raffle or charity game(s);

Whereas, Garrett's Space has requested that it be recognized as a nonprofit organization operating in the community for the purpose of obtaining a charitable gaming license; and

Whereas, Garrett's Space is a local civic nonprofit organization as defined by P.A. 382 of 1972, as amended, which should be recognized for its support of young adults and its dedication to addressing gaps in treatment for young adults experiencing distress due to mental health challenges;
