Resolution to Encourage the Development of Public Restrooms in Downtown Ann Arbor

Body

Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor has a vibrant downtown that is welcoming to locals as well as national and international visitors;

 

Whereas, It is in the City of Ann Arbor’s best interest to ensure all downtown visitors have the best experience possible;

 

Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor and the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) are making investments to improve the quality of the downtown footprint;

 

Whereas, In furtherance of the necessary steps to enhance downtown, public restrooms have been discussed;

 

Whereas, Public restrooms were mentioned by the residents who participated in the City Administrator’s 2022 summer downtown listening tour above all other needs; and

 

Whereas, Many downtown establishments do not permit the use of restroom facilities unless they are a patron of the establishment;

 

RESOLVED, That City Council directs the City Administrator to place the development of public restroom infrastructure on the Capital Improvements Plan (CIP); and

 

RESOLVED, That City Council encourages the City Administrator to look for creative ways to accelerate the development of public restrooms in downtown Ann Arbor.
