Memorandum

Attached for your consideration is a request from the University of Michigan EHS Fire Safety department to close Washington Street between Thayer and Fletcher Streets for the Campus Fire Safety Awareness event on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 from 7:00 AM until 4:00 PM. There will be a number of displays, opportunities to ask questions, and a burn trailer demonstration done in conjunction with the Ann Arbor Fire Department to show how fire suppression can limit danger if a fire occurs.

 

The applicant agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the street and will reimburse the City for all event expenses.

 

Notification of the street closing will be provided through the University of Michigan's Communications Office, as well as the City of Ann Arbor’s website and GovDelivery.

 

The event has been coordinated with all relevant City service areas for the purposes of traffic control and for the protection of the health and safety of the participants and the general public.

Whereas, The City received a request from the University of Michigan EHS Fire Safety department to close Washington Street between Thayer and Fletcher for the Campus Fire Safety Awareness event;

 

Whereas, The street closure will be properly signed, barricaded and supervised by the applicant; and

 

Whereas, The applicant agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the street and will reimburse the City for all event expenses;

 

RESOLVED, That City Council approve the closing of Washington Street between Thayer and Fletcher for the Campus Fire Safety Awareness event.
