Resolution to Review and Approve the Ann Arbor Housing Commission By-Laws and Adopt the FY 23 Housing Commission Calendar

The Ann Arbor Housing Commission’s by-laws state that an Annual Meeting will be held in May of each year to review and approve the by-laws, adopt a meeting calendar and elect board members.
The Housing Commission’s fiscal year begins July 1st and ends June 30th of each year; and the Commission meets monthly to discuss Agency business. The by-laws indicate that the Board will meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Finance staff are requesting that the Board meet on the 4th Wednesday when the 3rd Wednesday of the month occurs early in the month, to allow sufficient time to get the financials completed each month. The attached schedule shows the AAHC board meeting on the 4th Wednesday in August, February and March.
Attached is the proposed meeting schedule for the Ann Arbor Housing Commission Board Calendar for FY 23 (July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023). To support Diversity, Equity and Inclusion DEI, the City Calendar was consulted to make sure the meetings are not on any major religious holidays.
In addition, staff are recommending that the board amend the mission statement below:
“The Ann Arbor Housing Commission seeks to provide desirable housing and related supportive services for low-income individuals and families on a transitional and permanent basis. AAHC will work in partnership with other housing and service providers to build healthy residential communities and promote an atmosphere of pride and responsibility.”
And adopt the following mission statement to reflect values of diversity, equity and inclusion:
“Diversity, equity and inclusion is important to the Ann Arbor Housing Commission’s mission of providing affordable housing to low-income individuals and families and is critical to ensuring the well-being of our staff and the communities we serve. We strive to create an environment where employees are valued and empowered to positively support our mission. The Ann Arbor Housing Commission will advocate for public and private-sector policies that challenge systems that create inequity, oppression and disparity and work with community partners to bring about positive change.”

RESOLVED, that the Ann Arbor Housing Commission Board has reviewed its by-laws to ensure Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is incorporated into the board’s purpose, mission and AAHC programs and the board approves its by-laws with the following changes:
The new mission statement is “Diversity, equity and inclusion is important to the Ann Arbor Housing Commission’s mission of providing affordable housing to low-income individuals and families and is critical to ensuring the well-being of our staff and the communities we serve. We strive to create an environment where employees are valued and empowered to positively support our mission. The Ann Arbor Housing Commission will advocate for public and private-sector policies that challenge systems that create inequity, oppression and disparity and work with community partners to bring about positive change.”
And the Board will meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, (except for August, February, and March) and adopts the attached meeting schedule for FY23 (July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023).
