Resolution to Approve Street Closings for the Shamrocks and Shenanigans 5K Run/Walk - Sunday, March 13, 2022
Memorandum
Attached for your consideration is a resolution to approve the closing of certain streets for the Shamrocks and Shenanigans 5K Run/Walk on March 13, 2022.
The event will run from 8:45 AM to 11:00 AM and will require closing of the following streets from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM on March 13, 2022:
• S. Main from Washington to Stadium Blvd.
• Washington between S. First and Main Street
• S. First between Washington and East William
• East William between S. First and Main Street
• S. Ashley between Washington and West Jefferson
• West Jefferson between S. Ashley and S. Main Street
Streets will be reopened as soon as safely possible, but no later than 11:00 AM. A speaker system will be used to start the race at 8:45 AM.
The sponsor agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City and state regulations governing the use of the streets and will reimburse the City for all event expenses.
Notification of the street closings will be provided through the City’s website, GovDelivery, flyers and social media.
The event has been coordinated with all relevant City service areas for the purposes of traffic control and for the protection of the health and safety of the participants and the general public. Safety information is attached for your review. Post-race activities will be minimized and there will be no gathering in front of Conor O’Neill’s, which had occurred pre-pandemic.

Whereas, The City has received a request from Running Fit to close the following streets for the Shamrocks and Shenanigans 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, March 13, 2022 from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM;
Closing of the following streets from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM on March 13, 2022:
• S. Main from Washington to Stadium Blvd.
• Washington between S. First and Main Street
• S. First between Washington and East William
• East William between S. First and Main Street
• S. Ashley between Washington and West Jefferson
• West Jefferson between S. Ashley and S. Main Street
Whereas, The Sponsor agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City and state regulations governing the use of the streets, and will reimburse the City for all event expenses;
Whereas, The sponsor requires the approval of the Michigan Liquor Control Commission for a special outdoor liquor license; and
Whereas, Notification of the street closings will be provided through the City’s and the organizer’s websites, and through social media;
RESOLVED, That City Council approve closing of the following street closings for the Shamrocks & Shenanigans 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, March 13, 2022 from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM:
• S. Main from Washington to Stadium Blvd.
• Washington between S. First and Main Street
• S. First between Washington and East William
• East William between S. First and Main Street
• S. Ashley between Washington and West Jefferson
• West Jefferson between S. Ashley and S. Main Street
