Title

Resolution Requesting the DDA to Extend the Curb Side Carry Out Program until May 31, 2022

Body

Whereas, The Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority implemented the Curb Side Carry Out Program at the beginning of the pandemic to help support business at our downtown establishments;

Whereas, Currently the DDA has 148 such spaces designated in the Downtown area;

Whereas, The DDA has announced plans to convert these spaces back to regular meter spaces at the end of 2021 citing increased business activity, traffic, and parking demand downtown;

Whereas,  The Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 is the latest strain of the coronavirus to be designated a "variant of concern" by the World Health Organization;

Whereas, The DDA is continuing to provide “Repurposed Curbside Parking Spaces” until May 31, 2022 in conjunction with Sidewalk Occupancy permitting calendar; and

Whereas, Extending the program will directly help dozens of local downtown business who must rely on take-out business in order to financially survive a difficult business environment brought on by the ongoing pandemic;

RESOLVED, That the City Council requests that the DDA extend the program through May 31, 2022.
