Resolution to Accept Council Administration Committee Recommendation Regarding Interim City Administrator Search and Acting City Administrator

Whereas, On August 2, 2021, City Council requested that the Council Administration Committee bring back to the City Council a recommendation concerning the position of Interim City Administrator;
Whereas, The City Administrator is selected and approved by the Ann Arbor City Council;
Whereas, Under Section 12.14 of the City Charter, the City Council may appoint an Acting City Administrator to assume the duties of City Administrator;
Whereas, The Council Administration Committee has unanimously recommended a search for an external interim who would be able to serve as Interim City Administrator for a period up to a year, with the exact time period still to be determined; and
Whereas, The Council Administration Committee of the Ann Arbor City Council also unanimously recommends that Assistant City Administrator John Fournier be named Acting City Administrator during this search process;
Whereas, The Council Administration Committee will be meeting on Monday, August 30, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. to review the status of the interim search process;
RESOLVED, That the City Council directs the City Attorney to take steps to initiate a search for an external interim candidate for the position of City Administrator including a non-exclusive engagement with the recruitment firm GovHR for the purpose of identifying suitable candidates;
RESOLVED, That the City Council appoints Assistant City Administrator John Fournier to serve as Acting City Administrator for the next month, until September 20, 2021; and
RESOLVED, Effective August 16, Mr. Fournier shall be paid the current salary for the City Administrator while he serves as Acting City Administrator.
