Resolution to Remove Councilmember Hayner from Current Appointments

Whereas, Councilmember Hayner publicly posted a quote on social media containing a slur that is derogatory toward LGBTQ persons;
Whereas, Such derogatory language is harmful to the LGBTQ community;
Whereas, City Council, by Resolution R-20-438 of November 16, 2020, made its annual appointments of Council members to Council committees and various other bodies;
Whereas, City Council finds that this conduct is cause to remove Councilmember Hayner from those appointments;
Whereas, The Council Administration Committee considered this matter and voted to bring forward a resolution for removal of Councilmember Hayner from those appointments;
RESOLVED, That Councilmember Hayner is hereby removed from all current Council committees and other appointments for the remainder of this annual appointment cycle (until December 1, 2021), namely:
Council Audit Committee
Brownfield Plan Review Committee
Council of the Commons
Huron River Watershed Council Liaison
Liquor License Review Committee
Park Advisory Commission
Washtenaw Metro Alliance
RESOLVED, That City Council recommends that Councilmember Hayner attend relevant anti-discrimination, diversity, and sensitivity training;
RESOLVED, That Council members wishing to fill the vacancies on these bodies should express interest to Councilmember/Mayor Pro Tem Grand, who shall propose recommendations for appointment.
