PROCLAMATION

Senior Citizens Housing of Ann Arbor

Board of Directors

April 5, 2021

 

WHEREAS,                     Lurie Terrace was founded in 1964 and has been operated as an affordableapartment complex for adults 62 and older in downtown Ann Arbor since its inception; and

                     

WHEREAS,                     Lurie Terrace has provided an affordable, convienent, and safe living community to approximately 2,000 seniors for more than fifty-five years; and

 

WHEREAS                     Lurie Terrace has been operated by the Senior Citizens Housing of Ann Arbor volunteer board of directors, many of whom have devoted signficant time and effort on a daily and weekly basis in order to keep Lurie Terrace affordable and running smoothly for the benfit of the seniors; and

 

WHEREAS,                     The City of Ann Arbor recognizes this outstanding organization and the many  individuals that have contributed to its success as board members over the years, including the current board members and their years of service:

 

                     President Mary Jean Raa, 29 years of service.  Past President, David F. Hirth, 27 years of service. Vice President Andy Jacobs, 7 years of service. Treasurer Jim Wolfington, 5 years of service. Secretary Mike Gatti, 14 years of service. Jim Danforth, 17 years of service. Steve Darr, 11 years of service. Susan Hinton,                     11 years of service. Ronald Gardner, 9 years of service. Roberta Duda, 9 years of service. E.R. Raymond, 8 years of service; and

                     

WHEREAS,                     The current volunteer board members have decided to sell the building to the Ann Arbor Housing Commission through its non-profit, the Ann Arbor Affordable Housing Corporation, in order to ensure that it remains affordable housing forever to the benefit of the tenants and the community; and

 

WHEREAS,                     The Senior Citizens Housing of Ann Arbor board of directors will continue to provide services and programming for seniors in the community; and

 

WHEREAS.                     The City of Ann Arbor wishes to recognize the current board members commitment to serving the seniors of this community and their deadication to providing quality affordable housing. This group of individuals exemplify everything it means to be a servant to the community and a leader among peers.

 

NOW THEREFORE, I, Christopher Taylor, Mayor of Ann Arbor, Michigan, extend the community's sincere commendation and congratulations to the Senior Citizens Housing of Ann Arbor, for having so profoundly provided affordable housing for adults 62 and older in the community.  Your support in helping older adults afford quality housing in downtown Ann Arbor have been and will continue to be monumental contributions to the Ann Arbor Community.
