Resolution Accepting the Results of the 2020 November Elections and Recognizing President-elect Joseph Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris

Whereas, Elections for federal, state, and local offices took place on November 3, 2020 in the City of Ann Arbor and throughout the United States of America;
Whereas, The results of the November 3, 2020 elections - determining the City of Ann Arbor’s representation at the local, state and federal level - are known at this time;
Whereas, Ann Arbor City Council expresses support for the democratic process, in which the results of elections determine our elected officials for specific terms that begin and end at prescribed intervals;
Whereas, Respect for the results of public elections is paramount to the success of our democratically elected bodies at every level; and
Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor regularly demonstrates our democratic values by facilitating a peaceful transfer of power whenever a local election determines new leadership;
RESOLVED, The City of Ann Arbor formally denounces any efforts to delay, obstruct, or prevent a peaceful transfer of power to the federal, state, and local leaders that were elected on November 3, 2020, to represent us; and
RESOLVED, That the City Council of Ann Arbor stands with the leaders of Australia, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Ireland, Israel, South Korea, the United Kingdom and others in recognizing Joseph Biden as the President-elect and Kamala Harris as the Vice President-elect of the United States of America.
