Title
Resolution to Name City Property at 385 E. Eisenhower “Willow Nature Area” and Designate as Park Land
Memorandum
This resolution names the property at 385 E Eisenhower Pkway (09-12-05-400-155) “Willow Nature Area” and designates it as park land.
The City acquired the property in 2007 when JAG EISENHOWER, L.L.C. purchased a parcel of land from the City, after receiving City Council approval for a site plan and PUD zoning. JAG EISENHOWER, L.L.C. then developed the Malletts View Office Center PUD, and as part of the development agreement with the City, JAG EISENHOWER, L.L.C. conveyed by deed to the City a 1.3-acre parcel for park land. This parcel was never officially designated as park land or named. The Park Advisory Commission recommended naming the property “Willow Nature Area” at their August 3, 2020 meeting.
The property consists of shrubby wetland and floodplain forest on either side of Malletts Creek, which runs through the property. Although much of the property is currently filled with invasive plant species, this undeveloped area site is important for stormwater management in the Malletts Creek Watershed. Willow trees are one of the common trees that thrive in these ecosystems, now and into the future, hence the proposed name for this floodplain park.
