Whereas, The Ann Arbor City Council wishes to support activities that promote or bring the community together in its richness;

Whereas, The Ann Arbor City Council Approved Resolution R-19-366 for Community Events Fund Disbursements from the FY2020 Budget;

Whereas, The total amount of the FY2020 Community Events Fund budget is $59,000;

Whereas, Information on the Community Events Fund and application is available at https://www.a2gov.org/services/Pages/SpecialEventscommunityservice.aspx;

Whereas, Resolution R-19-366 approved the allocation of $28,000 to cover city costs for the Ann Arbor Summer Festival, Inc. Top of the Park Event beginning on June 12, 2020, and the City executed a grant agreement related thereto;

Whereas, The Ann Arbor Community Events Committee met and reviewed a funding request from the Ann Arbor Summer Festival, Inc. for the funding to be awarded despite the specific event listed being cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic as the City was and is a co-sponsor of the event;

Whereas, the University of Michigan and City are join partners in establishing the non-profit that produces the Ann Arbor Summer Festival and have governance oversight via their authority for appointments to the Summer Festival board, which is unlike any non-profit requesting funding from the Community Events Fund;

Whereas, The Ann Arbor Summer Fest still incurred many costs in anticipation of producing the Top of the Park Event and has programmed many activities including a unique and diverse lineup of musical genres that will strengthen, benefit and enrich the community;
