Resolution to Approve Street Closings for the 2020 Take Back the Night (Rally and March) - Thursday, April 2, 2020

Memorandum

Attached for your consideration is a resolution to approve the closing of certain streets for the 2020 Take Back the Night (Rally and March) on Thursday, April 2, 2020.  As in every previous year of this event, the streets are not barricaded, as City Police serve as escorts for this event and the streets are immediately accessible as the participants progress. The following streets will be closed as needed from 8:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. for the march and will be reopened as soon as possible after the march passes:

 

                     S. State Street from Madison to E. Liberty

                     Madison from S. State to Thompson

                     Thompson Street from Madison to William

                     William Street from Thompson Street to Division

                     Division from William to E. Liberty

                     E. Liberty Street from Division to S. State Street

                     North University from S. State Street to the Michigan League

 

The applicant, Standing Tough Against Rape Society, agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the streets and will reimburse the City for all event expenses.

 

Notification will occur through the City’s website and GovDelivery.  The applicant will advertise the rally on social media, emails, boards, bus signs and digital advertising on campus.

 

The event has been coordinated with all relevant City service areas for the purposes of traffic control and for the protection of the health and safety of the participants and the general public.

Whereas, The City has received a request from the Standing Tough Against Rape Society to hold a rally and march in the City of Ann Arbor on Thursday, April 2, 2020;

 

Whereas, It will be necessary to close the following streets as needed from 8:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. for the march:

 

                     S. State Street from Madison to E. Liberty

                     Madison from S. State to Thompson

                     Thompson Street from Madison to William

                     William Street from Thompson Street to Division

                     Division from William to E. Liberty

                     E. Liberty Street from Division to S. State Street

                     North University from S. State Street to the Michigan League

 

Whereas, Notification will occur through the City’s website and GovDelivery and through the applicant’s advertising plan; and
