Resolution to Approve Change Order No. 1 for Precision Concrete, Inc. (Bid No. 4566) for the 2019 Ramp and Sidewalk Repair Project ($53,900.00)
Memorandum
Attached for your review and approval is a change order to the construction contract with Precision Concrete, Inc. (PCI) for the 2019 Ramp and Sidewalk Repair Project.

This Contract work includes cutting sidewalk slabs that have "vaulted" or "displaced" joints that result in vertical displacements of between 1/2- and 1-inch, so that the City may avoid removal and replacement of otherwise good sidewalks. Based on the City's sidewalk-replacement contractor's unit prices, cutting, as opposed to replacing, one concrete slab will save the City an average of about $174.00 (based upon a typical 5' wide sidewalk that is 4" thick).

The original estimate for the project was to cut approximately 3,000 slabs in the scheduled areas for this year. It became clear that the amount of slabs marked for cutting would exceed that amount estimated by about 37%. PCC will be able to complete Areas 2019-04 and 2019-03 (see attached map) within the approved contract plus contingency amount. However, Change Order No. 1 will need to be approved in order to complete Areas 2019-01 and 2019-02.

The original construction contract was approved by City Council on April 1, 2019 for a total authorized amount of $161,001.00 ($147,001.00 contract and $14,000.00 Contingency). Change Order No. 1 in the amount of $53,900.00 increases the total authorized amount to $200,901.00.

Budget Impact: Funding for the project comes from the Street, Bridge, and Sidewalk Millage, and funds are available for the proposed change order.
