Resolution to Approve Street Closings for the Dicken Run 5K - Sunday, October 13, 2019 from 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM
Memorandum
Attached for your consideration is a resolution to approve the closing of certain streets for the Dicken Run 5K on Sunday, October 13, 2019.
The following streets are requested to be closed from 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. (please see map for additional detail):
• Stephen Terrace
• Runnymede Blvd
• Las Vegas Drive
• Avondale
• Glendale
• California Avenue
• Mershon Drive
• Winsted Blvd
• Weldon Blvd
• Waverly Road
• Covington Drive
• Windsor Drive
• Waltham Drive
• Saxon Street
The event start time is 8:56 A.M. and ends at 10:00 A.M., with additional time to be used for set-up and clean-up. Streets will re-open as soon as safely possible after the participants have cleared the areas.
This is the first running of this event. As such, a meeting was held with City staff and the organizers to discuss impact to the residents. The main concern was the route takes place within a neighborhood and “boxed” in many of the residents. The organizer explained that the neighborhood would be notified through various means, including Dicken Nextdoor and the Dicken PTO. Residents will be advised to park outside of the footprint of the race should they need to leave their homes during the short duration of the race. Should residents need to leave from or get directly to their homes, they will be permitted to do so as soon as safely possible.
The Mission of this event is as follows: “Every fall Dicken Elementary School holds the Dicken Dash for students K-5 held during the school day. This event helps to raise funds for Dicken Elementary School. The Dicken Run 5K would take place the weekend after the Dicken Dash and would be an opportunity for familes and friends to also participate in an event to help raise additional funds for Dicken Elementary School. Proceeds from the Dicken Run will go to the Dicken Elementary School PTO and the Ann Arbor Public Schools Fine Arts Department.”
The sponsor agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the streets and will reimburse the City for all event expenses.
Notification of the street closings will be provided through the City’s website, GovDelivery, Dicken Nextdoor, the Dicken PTO and the distribution of flyers to all Dicken residents a month before the event.
The event has been coordinated with all relevant City service areas for the purposes of traffic control and for the protection of the health and safety of the participants and the general public.
