Resolution to Appoint Michael Cox as the City of Ann Arbor Police Chief
Memorandum
The attached resolution provides for the appointment of Michael Cox as the Ann Arbor Police Chief, effective on or about July 15, 2019.

Mr. Cox's law enforcement experiences began with the Boston Police Department in 1989 and since included multiple roles with the Boston Police Department as the bureau chief, Bureau of Professional Development Superintendent, for the Boston Police Academy, deputy superintendent of the Boston Police Department Bureau of Field Services and commander of the operations division.

Mr. Cox received a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Providence College, Providence, Rhode Island.

Mr. Cox earned a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from Curry College, Milton, Massachusetts.

Mr. Cox earned a Master of Business Administrator from Questrom School of Business - Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts.

Mr. Cox is qualified to serve as the City of Ann Arbor's Police Chief and City's Council consent and approval of his appointment is recommended.

Whereas, Michael Cox was selected by the City Administrator as the successful candidate for the position of Ann Arbor Chief of Police after a national search and a thorough selection process with participation by City Council, police department personnel, the Independent Community Police Oversight Commission, community members, city managers, service area administrators, and the City Attorney;

Whereas, Section 12:1(b) of the Ann Arbor City Charter provides that the Police Chief shall be appointed by the City Council on recommendation of the City Administrator; and

Whereas, Michael Cox is highly qualified to serve and is recommended to Council for appointment as Ann Arbor's Police Chief.
