Title

Resolution to Approve Purchase of Sodium Hexametaphosphate (SHMP) for Water Treatment Plant Services from Carus Corporation, Bid No. ITB-4582 (estimated $34,600.00/year)

Memorandum

This resolution seeks approval to purchase approximately 40,000 pounds Sodium Hexametaphosphate (SHMP), at $86.50/hundred pounds (cwt). The Water Treatment Services Unit uses SHMP to stabilize the water after softening to prevent interruption of the filtering process. The estimated total cost of this chemical is $34,600.00 for FY20.

Carus Corporation submitted the lowest responsible bid among 6 bidders (see attached).  Staff recommends Council accept the bid and award a purchase order to Carus Corporation.  Staff also recommends that the City Administrator be authorized to issue purchase orders for up to 3 additional 1-year periods, with price increases consistent with the federal producer price index (PPI).

Funds are budgeted in the FY20 Operations and Maintenance Budget for the Water Supply System Fund.
