Resolution to Approve the Closing of Maynard Street for the Rock the District Special Event on Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 AM on Sunday, May 12, 2019

Attached for your consideration is a request from the State Street District to close Maynard Street between Liberty and William on Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 AM on Sunday, May 12, 2019 for the Rock the District event. The actual event will take place from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM, with the additional time to be used for set-up and breakdown of the event. The parking structure will remain open and accessible via Thompson Street.
The State Street District is excited to bring entertainment, including live music to downtown Ann Arbor. The District will have outdoor dining as well as several tents for beer sales and seating for those enjoying the entertainment.
The sponsor will submit an application for approval from the State of Michigan Liquor Control Commission for temporary sales, service and consumption of alcoholic beverages in the defined areas, pursuant to the MLCC regulations.
The sponsor agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the street, and will reimburse the City for all event expenses. Notification of the street closings will be provided through the City’s website, GovDelivery, the sponsor’s website and social media. Neighboring businesses will be informed of this event via the District.

Whereas, The City has received a request from the State Street District to close Maynard Street between Liberty and William on Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 AM on Sunday, May 12, 2019 for the Rock the District event;
Whereas, The street closure will be signed, barricaded and properly supervised;
Whereas, The sponsor requires the approval of the Michigan Liquor Control Commission for a special outdoor liquor license;
Whereas, The sponsor agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, and to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the streets;
Whereas, The sponsor has agreed to pay the cost of City services associated with the staging of this event; and
Whereas, Notification of the street closings will be provided through the City’s website, GovDelivery and the sponsor’s website and social media;
RESOLVED, That a special liquor license for the event be approved, contingent upon the approval from the Michigan Liquor Control Commission;
RESOLVED, That the sponsor will pay the cost of City services associated with the staging of this event; and
RESOLVED, That City Council approve the closing of Maynard Street on Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 AM on Sunday, May 12, 2019.
