City of Ann Arbor Recognized as a Gold Certified Community through the Michigan Green Communities Program

Body

The City of Ann Arbor was recently awarded “Gold Certification” through the Michigan Green Communities program. The Michigan Green Communities Challenge is an annual program that serves as a guide to help communities measure their progress towards sustainability. Ann Arbor is one of only seven communities certified this year as a gold community; others include: Dearborn, East Lansing, Grand Rapids, Novi, Delhi Charter Township, and Pittsfield Charter Township. Ann Arbor was specifically recognized for the City Council’s commitment to powering City operations with 100% clean and renewable energy by 2035. The Office of Sustainability and Innovations recently shared a plan for how to achieve that goal with City Council (at the September 17th meeting) and looks forward to working with Council and all City Staff to make sure this commitment is realized.

Here tonight to present this award is Luke Forrest, Director of Civic Innovations with the Michigan Municipal League.
