Proclamation honoring Ruth Thornton

Memorandum

PROCLAMATION

Honoring Ruth Thornton

September 17, 2018

 

WHEREAS,                     Ruth Thornton has been a partner of the City of Ann Arbor since March 21, 2016; and

 

WHEREAS,                     Ms. Thornton has led the City’s efforts to purchase and preserve valuable Greenbelt, agricultural and park land; and

 

WHEREAS,                     Under Ms. Thornton’s guidance, the City of Ann Arbor has protected approximately 800 acres of property, portions of which help to ensure the continued operation of four working farms; and

 

WHEREAS,                       Ms. Thornton has secured over four million dollars of partner contributions and grant dollars to facilitate the protection of high property properties in the greenbelt area; and

 

WHEREAS,                       Ms. Thornton, on behalf of the City of Ann Arbor, has been a demonstrated leader in the field of greenbelt and parkland preservation ensuring her lasting mark on the City and surrounding region; and 

 

WHEREAS,                     The City of Ann Arbor commends Ms. Thornton’s contributions to the people of Ann Arbor and the greater area of Washtenaw County.

 

NOW THEREFORE, I, Christopher Taylor, Mayor of Ann Arbor, Michigan, do hereby congratulate Ruth Thornton for her service to the City of Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County and the State of Michigan, and proclaim September 17, 2018 as a day to honor her achievements in the City of Ann Arbor.
