Memorandum from City Administrator - Street Tree Care - August 9, 2018
Memorandum
City’s New Street Tree Care
This memorandum is an update on the City’s new street tree watering schedule. Margolis Nursery, the City’s street tree planting contractor, is responsible for watering all newly planted street trees every other week for the first summer. Margolis has a staff person dedicated to watering all 1,000 trees that have been planted last fall and this spring. A doorhanger with this information and supplemental care instructions is left at all homes where a new street tree is planted and information is also posted on the City’s website: <https://www.a2gov.org/departments/forestry/Documents/NewStreetTreeCareTips_ContractorPlanted.pdf>actorPlanted.pdf <https://www.a2gov.org/departments/forestry/Documents/NewStreetTreeCareTips_ContractorPlanted.pdf>
Street trees are guaranteed by Margolis for one year after planting; if any tree dies within the guarantee period, it will be replaced at no extra cost to the City. Due to a variety of factors, approximately 5-7% of the City’s newly planted street trees die each year, this mortality rate is consistent with other communities throughout the country.
