Resolution to Approve Street Closings for the 2018 Rolling Sculpture Car Show - Friday, July 13, 2018
Memorandum
Attached for your consideration is a resolution to close the following streets for the Rolling Sculpture Car Show on Friday, July 13, 2018 from Noon to Midnight:
• S. Main Street between Huron Street and William Street
• Liberty Street between S. Ashley Street and S. Fifth Avenue
• Washington Street between S. Ashley Street and S. Fourth Avenue (except for traffic entering or exiting the Washington Street Parking Structure)
The sponsor, Main Street Area Association, also requests approval for the closing of E Washington Street between S. Division Street and S. Fourth Avenue from Noon to 3:30 PM. Closure of this section of E. Washington will provide a holding area and help alleviate traffic backups on Huron Street.
This event will be held to promote the Main Street business district as well as provide entertainment in the downtown area.
The sponsor will insure that access to the Washington Street parking structure is maintained and will coordinate the bagging of parking meters with the DDA and Republic Parking.
The sponsor agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the streets and will reimburse the City for all event expenses.
Notification of the street closings will be provided through the City’s website as well as through the Main Street Area Association communications.
The event has been coordinated with all relevant City service areas for the purposes of traffic control and for the protection of the health and safety of the participants and the general public.

Whereas, The City has received a request from the sponsor to close streets for the 2018 Rolling Sculpture Car Show on Friday, July 13, 2018;
Whereas, This event is intended to promote and attract people to the Main Street business area;
Whereas, The staging of this event will require the closing of the following streets on Friday, July 13, 2018 from 7:00 A.M. to Midnight:
• S. Main Street between Huron Street and William Street
• Liberty Street between S. Ashley Street and S. Fifth Avenue
• Washington Street between S. Ashley Street and S. Fourth Avenue (except for traffic entering or exiting the Washington Street Parking Structure)
Whereas, The closing of E. Washington Street between S. Division Street and S. Fourth Avenue from Noon to 3:30 PM will provide a holding area and help alleviate traffic backups on Huron Street;
Whereas, The street closures will be signed, barricaded and properly supervised;
Whereas, The sponsor agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the streets and will reimburse the City for all event expenses; and

RESOLVED, That City Council approves the closing of the following streets on Friday, July 13, 2018 from Noon to Midnight:

RESOLVED, That City Council also approves the closing of E. Washington Street between S. Fourth Avenue and S. Division Street from Noon to 3:30 P.M.
