Memorandum
To obtain a charitable gaming license under Michigan law, a nonprofit organization is required to submit a resolution from its local governing body recognizing it as a community-based organization.

Anchors Unlimited Science Fun, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that was created with a mission to provide math and science education and enrichment for children and encourage academic excellence. Anchors Unlimited Science Fun provides web-based activities for students. They are an active participant each year at the Mayor’s Green Fair.

Passage of the attached resolution will allow Anchors Unlimited Science Fun, Inc. to host a charitable poker event at the Ann Arbor Country Club on June 25 - June 28, 2009 as part of their fundraising efforts for this year. This resolution is required in order to obtain final approval from the Charitable Gaming Division of the Bureau of State Lottery for the event.

Whereas, P.A. 382 of 1972, as amended, requires that local civic nonprofit organizations be recognized by resolution adopted by the local governmental subdivision in which the organization conducts its principal activities and that a copy of said resolution be filed with any application for a license to conduct a bingo, raffle or charity game(s);

Whereas, Anchors Unlimited Science Fun, Inc. has requested that it be recognized as a nonprofit organization operating in the community for the purpose of obtaining a charitable gaming license; and

Whereas, Anchors Unlimited Science Fun, Inc. is a local civic nonprofit organization as defined by P.A. 382 of 1972, as amended, which should be recognized for its efforts to encourage youth interest and achievement in science and math;
