Title

Resolution to Appoint Michael Gonzales as the City of Ann Arbor Interim City Assessor

Memorandum

The attached resolution provides for the appointment of Michael Gonzales as the City of Ann Arbor Interim Assessor, effective April 29, 2018.

The present Assessor, David Petrak, is retiring effective April 28, 2018, and a recruiting process has been initiated for his replacement.  The Assessor’s role and responsibilities are defined in the City’s Charter and Michigan statute.  For a city with a state equalized value like Ann Abor’s, the State Tax Commission requires a minimum certification level of Michigan Master Assessing Officer (formerly Level 4).

Michael Gonzales holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Michigan and has held various positions in assessment administration since 2000.  He joined Ann Arbor’s Assessing Department in 2013 and presently serves as the Deputy Assessor.  In 2017 Mr. Gonzales obtained his Michigan Master Assessing Officer certification.

Michael Gonzales is qualified to serve and is recommended to City Council for appointment as the Interim City Assessor.
