Resolution to Approve Street Closures for March for Our Lives on Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.

Memorandum

Attached for your consideration is a resolution to approve the closing of streets for the March for Our Lives special event on Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.  The actual March will occur between 12:30 and 1:30 P.M.  Additional time is being requested to ensure full coverage of the event.  The organizers are requesting the closure of the southern lanes of Stadium Boulevard between Seventh and Main Streets, and the eastern lanes of Seventh Street between Stadium Boulevard up to the end of the Pioneer High School property line.  The Ann Arbor Police Department will monitor this event for crowd size and will determine hard or soft closures for this event and will open the streets as appropriate for crowd size.

 

The applicant, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, is holding this event in recognition of lives lost in multiple cities, most notably Parkland, Las Vegas, Orlando, San Bernardino and Newtown.  All members of the public are invited to participate.

 

The event is being coordinated with all relevant City service areas for the purposes of traffic control and for the protection of the health and safety of the participants and the general public.

Whereas, The City of Ann Arbor has received an application from Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America close streets to hold a March for Our Lives special event on Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.;

 

Whereas, The applicant has requested closing the southern side of Stadium Boulevard between Main and Seventh Streets and the eastern side of Seventh Street between Stadium Boulevard and the end of the property line of Pioneer High School; and

 

Whereas, The applicant is working closely with the Ann Arbor Police Department and City staff to ensure the safety of the participants and the public;

 

RESOLVED, That City Council approve the closing of the southern side of Stadium Boulevard between Main and Seventh Streets and the eastern side of Seventh Street between Stadium Boulevard and the end of the property line of Pioneer High School on Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. for the March for Our Lives special event.
