Title
Resolution to Approve Street Closings for the 10th Annual Box Car Race/Soap Box Derby - Sunday, April 8, 2018
Memorandum
Attached for your consideration is a resolution to approve the closing of Keech from Main to Greene for the 10th Annual Box Car Race/Soap Box Derby on April 8, 2018.

The event is sponsored by Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and Ann Arbor Active Against ALS to honor the legacy of their fraternity brother, Lou Gehrig, and to raise money for ALS research. All proceeds from the event will be donated to ALS research.

The event will require closing of Keech from Main to Greene from 11:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. on April 8, 2018. The actual event will take place from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. with the additional time to be used for set-up and break-down. This event happens on the same date as the University of Michigan's Big House 5K. The route was changed in 2016 to capitalize on the attendance of that event. The Big House 5K race will be concluded prior to the start of the Box Car Race. The applicant will ensure that the area is cleared of hay, trash and debris upon conclusion of the event.

The applicant agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City and state regulations governing the use of the streets, and will reimburse the City for all event expenses.

Notification of the street closings will be provided through the City's website, GovDelivery, the Neighborhood Association and flyers.

The event has been coordinated with all relevant City service areas for the purposes of traffic control and for the protection of the health and safety of the participants and the general public.
