WHEREAS, The City of Ann Arbor has adopted a Sustainability Framework and reviews annual City Council priorities through this framework;
WHEREAS, City Council identified priorities at a Planning Session on Dec. 8, 2014, and these priorities were reviewed through the 16 Sustainability Framework Goals in Dec. of 2015;
WHEREAS, included in the priority project list are amendments to the zoning ordinance to further provide for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) to address the problems of lack of affordable housing, hardship of aging in place and lack of economic diversity in population;
WHEREAS, allowing ADUs in the City of Ann Arbor furthers 7 of the 16 goals in the Sustainability Framework: Energy Conservation; Diverse Housing; Human Services; Economic Vitality; Transportation Options; Sustainability Systems; and Integrated Land Use;
WHEREAS, The City of Ann Arbor Planning Commission has been directed to review and recommend changes to the zoning ordinance to expand the usage of ADUs;
WHEREAS, The City of Ann Arbor Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on proposed text changes at their upcoming April 19, 2016 meeting with the potential for text changes to be considered by City Council in late spring or early summer;
RESOLVED, The Environmental Commission supports the proposed amendments to the zoning ordinance to further allow ADUs in the City of Ann Arbor;
