PROCLAMATION
Greenbelt 10th Anniversary
of Farmland Preservation
March 21, 2016
WHEREAS, The City of Ann Arbor voters approved the Open Space and Parkland Preservation millage in November, 2003 by an overwhelming margin creating a thirty year millage at .5 mil tax levy; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception the Ann Arbor Greenbelt has acquired 45 agricultural easements totaling over 5000 acres; and
WHEREAS, The first Greenbelt agricultural conservation easement was completed on March 20, 2006 by Tom and Rosanne Bloomer on their 152.3 acres farm in Webster Township; and
WHEREAS, Tom Bloomer served on the Ann Arbor Greenbelt Advisory Commission and currently serves on Webster Township Farmland and Open Space Preservation Board as the farmer representative; and
WHEREAS, Rosanne Bloomer worked for many years in agricultural financial services, and in that capacity encouraged farmers to consider agricultural easements; and
WHEREAS, The City of Ann Arbor appreciates and celebrates the dedication of the Tom and Rosanne Bloomer to the long-term preservation, protection and management of productive farmland and the rural beauty which is part of the natural historic character of the Ann Arbor community.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Christopher Taylor, Mayor of Ann Arbor, Michigan, in recognition of their leadership in farmland preservation, do hereby proclaim a celebration of Tom and Rosanne Bloomer, who, granted the City its first conservation easement to the Ann Arbor Greenbelt Program.
