PROCLAMATION
Celebrating Recovery Month
September 2015


WHEREAS, Behavioral health is an essential part of health and one's overall wellness; and
WHEREAS, Treatment reduces reported job problems, including incomplete work and absenteeism, by an average of seventy-five percent; and
WHEREAS, Mental and/or substance use disorders left untreated causes a burden on the person, their family and friends and our community, we encourage families and other allies to recognize the signs of a problem and encourage them to aid helping that individual into treatment and recovery/wellness support services; and
WHEREAS, It is critical that we educate our community members and local businesses that substance use disorders are a treatable, yet serious health care problem, and by taking steps to address it, as well as provide support for the families and children of those with these disorders, we can save both lives and dollars; and

WHEREAS, According to the 2013 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 22.7 million persons aged 12 and over meet criteria for substance use disorders and 43.8 million Americans aged 18 or older have experienced a mental health condition over the past year. Through Recovery Month (September) we hope to raise awareness that prevention, treatment and recovery services are now more accessible than ever before; and

WHEREAS, To help achieve this goal, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, Dawn Farm and Home of New Vision invite all residents of Ann Arbor, Michigan to participate in Recovery Month
NOW THEREFORE, I, Christopher Taylor, Mayor, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, do hereby proclaim the month of September 2015 as Recovery Month, and invite residents of Ann Arbor to support those in recovery and the programs & services designed to help those in need.
