Resolution to Award Contract for the Geddes Dam - Tainter Gate #4 Replacement Project to Gerace Construction Company, Inc. ($299,900.00)
Memorandum
This memorandum and resolution requests approval to award a contract to Gerace Construction Company, Inc. for the Geddes Dam - Tainter Gate #4 Replacement Project ($299,900.00). The Geddes Dam functions as a recreational dam and this project was presented to and recommended for approval by the Parks Advisory Commission on January 27, 2015.
On January 17, 2014, the City experienced a loss of Tainter Gate #4 functionality at the Geddes Dam. The electronic starter which controls the up and down movement of the gate failed due to the extreme temperatures, causing the gate to rise out of the water and pull the gate through its mechanical stops. The lifting chains subsequently broke and the gate failed to fully open. After the gate was lowered with a crane and inspected, it was determined that significant structural elements of the gate were badly damaged. Additionally, the gate exhibited signs of corrosion, leaks, coating failure and other necessary repairs. Consequently, it was determined that the repair of the gate was not cost effective, and that a complete replacement was recommended. This gate is a critical piece of equipment at the Geddes Dam. Without its operation, the City would risk the ability to fully pass the design flow of the dam.

Since Gerace Construction Company submitted the lowest responsible bid in the amount of $299,900.00, it is recommended that their bid for $299,900.00 be accepted, and that Gerace Construction Company, Inc. be awarded the contract for the Geddes Dam - Tainter Gate #4 Replacement Project.
