Recommendation for Ann Arbor to Apply for 100 Resilient Cities Centennial Challenge Grant

Whereas, The Rockefeller Foundation has launched the 100 Resilient Cities Centennial Challenge, a $100 million effort to build urban resilience around the world;
Whereas, The 100 Resilient Cities Challenge is designed to take a hundred cities globally, and link them around the world, not only so they can share best practices, but so they can receive a suite of services that will be provided by the Rockefeller Foundation;
Whereas, The Foundation invites municipal government leaders from across the globe to register to apply on behalf of their city;
Whereas, One hundred cities from across the globe will be selected to receive technical support and resources for developing and implementing plans for urban resilience;
Whereas, Selected applicants must agree to work with The Rockefeller Foundation's partners to establish the suite of financial and technical assistance support to develop and implement the resilience plan;
Whereas, Selected applicants must become an integrated member of the 100 Resilient Cities Network;
Whereas, Selected applicants must create or expand the role of a Chief Resilience Officer within the municipal government;
Whereas, The Environmental Commission recommended that City Council direct the City Administrator to apply for this grant on September 26, 2013;
Whereas, Applications are due by the deadline of October 14, 2013;
Whereas, Ahe application is process short and staff time to support the application is minimal;
Whereas, There is a shared interest among key staff and local non-profits in applying for this grant opportunity; and
Whereas, This grant opportunity would help to further the current efforts to create a more resilient community under the Sustainability Framework and Action Plan and Climate Action Plan;
