Resolution to Approve the Purchase of One Fire Department Light Rescue Vehicle from Red Holman GMC ($26,777.00)
Memorandum
The attached resolution authorizes the purchase of a 2014 GMC Sierra 2500 4X4 Pickup Trucks for a total of $26,777.00 from Red Holman GMC, Westland, Michigan.

This vehicle will be equipped with basic first aid equipment and will be used as a two person light rescue unit by the Fire Department. The truck will be staffed out of fire station one.

The truck will replace a 2004 Ford Excursion with 1,420 hours of operation which has been in service for 10 years. The Excursion was modified to be a light rescue unit from its original assignment as a Battalion Chiefs vehicle. It will be retained for use as a backup light rescue unit.

This purchase follows the guidelines of the City’s Green Fleet Policy to reduce the amount of fuel used and to pay a premium for “greener” vehicles if necessary. Although the Ford truck’s purchase price is $679.00 less than the GMC pickup, a review of each vehicle’s fuel economy rates shows that GMC will use 470 gallons less fuel in the seven year expected life of the truck. At today’s fuel cost that equals a $1,400.00 savings.

The Fleet and Facilities Unit reviewed the bids of the Cooperative Purchasing Programs of the State of Michigan, Oakland County, and Macomb County. Red Holman Pontiac-GMC, Westland, MI, was the lowest responsive bidder under the Oakland County Bids. (See attached tabulation sheet)

Adequate funds for this purchase have been budgeted in the Fleet Services budget for FY14.

Red Holman GMC received Human Rights approval on February 14, 2013.
