Resolution to Approve Miller Avenue Improvements - Sidewalk and Curb & Gutter Special Assessment Project - Resolution No. 2

Attached for review and consideration, please find Resolution No. 2 to approve the advancement of a special assessment project for certain public improvements to be constructed as part of the Miller Avenue Improvement Project - File No. 2009-023; Special Assessment District #40. The improvements include construction of new sidewalk and new concrete curb & gutter along Miller Avenue (see attached map). Resolution No. 2 establishes the cost of the project and its distribution.
This work will be included in the 2013 Miller Avenue Improvements Project, which in part will be financed by Federal Surface Transportation Program - Urban (STPU) funds. The City’s ability to use federal funds for this project has created the opportunity for the private property owners to receive the sidewalk and curb & gutter improvements at less than the standard rates.
Neither permanent nor temporary easements will be necessary for this work, as the existing public right-of-way provides sufficient width for this street reconstruction project.
Sidewalk Gaps
On the south side of Miller Avenue there is currently a gap in the sidewalk system which extends from approximately Saunders Crescent to Linda Vista Avenue (approximately 2,000 feet). In accordance with the City’s Non-Motorized Plan and Complete Streets approach, placement of new sidewalk is proposed to close this gap and provide a continuous pedestrian connection along the south side of the street. Providing this walkway will allow safer access to the Miller Nature Area, and also to bus stops located on the south side of the street. A map of the area is attached.
Curb & Gutter Gaps
