· Curbside compost collection is starting back up today, April 1st. Storm debris will continue to be collected at the curb. Regular yard waste must either be put in a City compost cart, a paper yard waste bag, or bundled not longer than 4 foot or weigh over 50 pounds. Additional compost carts are available for a $50 purchase at the City Customer Service Center, 301 E. Huron.
· A few items of note to mention regarding the collection of “Wet Weather Projects” that are underway here in the City:
o The Sanitary Sewer - Wet Weather Evaluation Project is getting underway, with the first of a series of public meetings scheduled for Tuesday, April 23 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Media Center at Tappan Middle School. This project will be collecting and analyzing data from the Sanitary Sewer System, using this data to evaluate the effectiveness of the Footing Drain Disconnection Program, and making recommendations for reducing wet weather flow into the sanitary sewer system in the future. This meeting will introduce this project to the public, layout the timeline for completion, gather initial comments and concerns, and present opportunities for future community involvement.
o The Stormwater Model Calibration Project is fully underway, having completed all of the neighborhood meetings to gather initial observations and anecdotal information. This project is moving into the “data collection” phase, with meters being placed in the stormwater system, as well as the installation of almost 40 “crest gauges” (PVC pipes that measure the depth of overland flooding) around the City. The project team is still looking for some citizens interested in joining the “Citizen Storm Corps” to help collect data for the project.
