Attached for your review and action is a resolution to approve a $79,980.00 contract with Michigan Recreational Construction, Inc. for improvements to Placid Way Park.

The work includes removal and replacement of the existing play structure, replacement of a picnic table, and the addition of benches and landscaping. The play structure was installed in 1993 and does not meet current barrier free code. At the public meeting, residents requested additional landscaping for shade as well as benches and a picnic table to complement the play structure. The project is an identified need in the current PROS Plan. PAC recommended approval of this contract at their March 20th, 2012 meeting.

Staff is recommending awarding a contract to Michigan Recreational Construction, Inc. in the amount of $79,980.00 for improvements to Placid Way Park. The bid includes supplying and installing the play equipment as well as the park furniture and landscaping. You are also requested to approve a 10% construction contingency ($7,998.00) to cover potential contract change orders to be approved by the City Administrator. It is requested that $87,978.00 be approved for the construction contract and associated contingency for the life of the project without regard to fiscal year. Funding is available in the approved FY2012 Park Maintenance and Capital Improvements Millage.

Michigan Recreational Construction, Inc. meets the living wage and prevailing wage requirements and received Human Rights approval on March 12, 2012.
