Resolution to Approve Conversion to One-way Traffic on Carey Street
Memorandum
Attached for your review and approval please find a resolution to support conversion of Carey Street, to one-way traffic.

The Carey Street and Division Street intersection currently has a significantly tight right-hand turn from southbound Carey Street onto northbound-only Division Street and does not have adequate sight distance to provide the necessary safety for all roadway users. The current configuration with two-way traffic is a safety hazard and will be further complicated by the addition of the Division Street two-way cycle track extension from the current terminus at Catherine St. to the Broadway Bridge. Therefore, it is proposed to remove the southbound lane on Carey Street and repurpose that space for other uses, and to maintain the northbound lane of Carey Street from Division Street to Depot Street.

Per Chapter 126, Article 1, Section 10:2, the approval of the Council shall be obtained prior to the adoption of a rule or regulation concerning 1-way streets. This conversion to one-way traffic is in alignment with City Council’s commitment to Vision Zero and advancing initiatives that enhance safety of all users in the right of way.
?Background: The Division Street Bikeway Project, located along Division Street from Catherine Street to Detroit Street and along Broadway Street from Beaks Street to Plymouth Road, includes the following elements:
Installation of a separated, two-way cycle track along Division Street which provides a connection from the existing bikeway on Division Street south of Catherine Street and the shared-use path (SUP) north of the Broadway Street/Plymouth Road intersection. ????????????????????

Coordination with the City’s water main improvements between Kingsley Street and Detroit Street, including replacement of a 150-year-old water main with a new 12-inch water main.

Coordination with the City’s reconstruction of the signalized intersecti...
