RESOLUTION TO APPROVE PURCHASE OF MERIDIAN BARRIERS FOR DOWNTOWN SPECIAL EVENT STREET CLOSURES

Whereas, As part of the Downtown Area Circulation Study and Development Plan effort, DDA staff and representatives from City Community Services, Transportation, Police, and Fire are collaborating on a safe, functional, and attractive solution to special event barricades;
Whereas, A new DDA Development Plan provides the best approach for a long-term solution for both barricade infrastructure and operations;
Whereas, Following the tragic New Years terror attack in New Orleans, three City departments - Fire, Police, and Community Services - are asking the DDA help provide a stop gap solution for the 2025 event season, in advance of a new DDA Development Plan adoption and implementation;
Whereas, This request includes purchasing a Meridian Archer Barrier kit with 15 barriers and supplies for set up and operations, estimated at $205,000. Meridian was identified as one of two final recommended solutions through the DDA’s collaborative planning efforts;
RESOLVED, The DDA Board authorizes the purchase of a Meridian Archer Barrier Kit for 15 barriers from its General/TIF Fund in an amount not to exceed $205,000;
RESOLVED, The DDA Board authorizes the Executive Director to to take all the necessary actions to implement this resolution.
