Proclamation Welcoming Visitors from Our Sister City, Tübingen, Germany
Memorandum
WHEREAS, Tübingen, Germany and Ann Arbor have shared a Sister City relationship since 1965; and
WHEREAS, Tübingen and Ann Arbor are similar in size, with thriving local universities and deeply engaged publics; and
WHEREAS, Tübingen and Ann Arbor have set bold goals of achieving community-wide carbon neutrality by the year 2030; and
WHEREAS, Tübingen and Ann Arbor are both actively implementing actions to help residents reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enhance transit options, and advance sustainable land use policies; and
WHEREAS, Tübingen and Ann Arbor are committed to learning together, sharing experiences, and finding ways to collaborate in equitably addressing the climate challenge; and
WHEREAS, Tübingen and Ann Arbor have recently visited each other to share promising practices related to climate action and to reaffirm their commitment to collaboration; and
WHEREAS, The City of Ann Arbor and the community welcomes Lord Mayor Palmer, City Councillor Helmle, City Councillor Mayer, Mr. Hanno Brühl, Ms. Barbara Landwehr, and Mr. Stephan Klingebiel from Tübingen, Germany to Ann Arbor.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Christopher Taylor, Mayor of Ann Arbor, Michigan, do hereby proclaim today, September 16, 2024, as the Tübingen and Ann Arbor Sister City Day. We encourage all community members to join us in welcoming our visitors from our Sister City and celebrating our relationship and commitment to addressing the climate challenge.
