Resolution in Support of the Mayor’s Declaration of a Local State of Emergency

Body

Whereas, On April 15, 2026, an EF-1 tornado occurred within the City of Ann Arbor;

 

Whereas, The tornado caused widespread and severe property damage throughout the City including over 100 downed power lines and trees requiring substantial road clearing efforts, significant structural damage to Veterans Memorial Park, and damage to other City and private property;

 

Whereas, Remediation efforts are ongoing and will require substantial resources; 

 

Whereas, The Mayor of the City of Ann Arbor, as the Chief Executive Official, declared a local State of Emergency on April 15, 2026; and

 

Whereas, Staff have provided the attached declaration to the Michigan State Police and the District 2 South Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division Coordinator and the Governor has issued Executive Order No. 2026-8 which includes Ann Arbor in the State’s declaration of emergency;

 

RESOLVED, That the City Council consents to the Mayor’s Declaration of Local State of Emergency that was issued on April 15, 2026; and

 

RESOLVED, That the Mayor’s Declaration of Local State of Emergency that was issued on April 15, 2026* is hereby extended and continued until the City Council votes to discontinue such Local State of Emergency Declaration.
